Herci Marsden, artistic director and choreographer of The State Ballet of Rhode Island is holding open auditions for aspiring male and female dancers. If you have ever dreamed of dancing in a pre-professional ballet company now is the time to audition.
Marsden, already preparing for season 58, is looking for passionate students that would like to learn, perform and experience the world of classicalballet performance. SBRI will prepare you for dance auditions and/or college especially if you have the desire to minor or major dance in the future.
If you audition now and are accepted, you can begin your company training in February or wait until September 2017. High school students that dance ballet are highly encouraged to try out. Also, scholarship and merit awards will take place following the company financially need based, a letter for reason should also accompany audition form.
A panel of judges will score each dancer during the class on the students barre work, adagio, allegro, waltz and diagonal work. Pointe work as well if on pointe.

REQUIREMENTS FOR COMPANY DANCERS:
You must have studied dance for at least six years; for females, three years of pointe, and be at least thirteen years old.
REQUIREMENTS FOR APPRENTICE PROGRAM:
You must have studied dance a minimum of four years, pointe for two years (female), and be at least eleven years of age.
REQUIREMENTS FOR PRE-APPRENTICE PROGRAM:
You must have studied dance a minimum of three years and be at least nine years of age.

Girls wear ballet leotard with pink tights and ballet shoes. Pointe shoes are required if studied pointe. Boys wear t-shirt, tights and ballet shoes.
